Knitwear Care & Sizing Guide

Every Rarame piece is handmade to order. Caring for it correctly keeps your sweater looking beautiful wash after wash. Instructions below are specific to each yarn blend — please check the label or product page to confirm your composition before washing.

1. Yarn Compositions at Rarame

Our knitwear is made from four primary yarn groups. Each requires slightly different care:

• Merino Wool + Baby Alpaca + Nylon — e.g., Ivory Cable Knit Sweater (40% Merino, 40% Baby Alpaca, 20% Nylon)
• Super Kid Mohair + Merino Wool + Nylon — e.g., Taupe Polo Collar Sweater, Scarlet Mohair Jumper, Bordeaux Turtleneck (38% Mohair / 38% Merino / 24% Nylon)
• Kid Mohair + Nylon — e.g., Lavender Lace Sweater, Striped Purple-Grey Jumper (70% Mohair, 30% Nylon)
• Mohair / Wool + Acrylic blend — e.g., Salmon Pink Cardigan, Beige Bomber Cardigan, Ivory Cottagecore Cardigan

2. Washing Instructions

Merino Wool + Baby Alpaca + Nylon blends

• Cold hand wash only — water temperature 20–30°C (68–86°F) maximum
• Use a gentle, wool-safe detergent (e.g., Woolite or similar)
• Do not machine wash, even on a delicate cycle
• Do not bleach
• Do not wring or twist — gently press out water

Super Kid Mohair + Merino Wool + Nylon blends

• Hand wash in cool water — 20°C (68°F) or below
• Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent
• Do not machine wash or tumble dry
• Do not bleach
• Do not wring — support the full weight when lifting from water

Kid Mohair + Nylon blends

• Hand wash gently in cool water — 20°C (68°F) or below
• Use minimal detergent; rinse thoroughly
• Do not tumble dry, bleach, or wring

Mohair / Wool + Acrylic blends

• Hand wash in cool water with wool-friendly detergent
• Do not tumble dry
• Do not bleach or wring
• These blends are slightly more durable but still require gentle handling

3. Drying

• Always dry flat on a clean, dry towel or mesh drying rack — for every yarn type
• Reshape the sweater to its original dimensions while damp: smooth the body, align the sleeves, and gently stretch the neckline back to shape
• Keep out of direct sunlight and away from radiators or heat sources
• Do not hang to dry — hanging stretches wet fibers under their own weight
• Allow to dry fully (usually 24–48 hours) before folding or storing

4. Storage

• Fold, never hang — hangers distort the shoulders and body of knitwear over time
• Store folded in a breathable drawer or shelf; avoid airtight plastic bags for long-term storage
• For seasonal storage, use a cedar block or lavender sachet to deter moths — do not use mothballs directly on fibers

5. Shrinkage Prevention

Note: An independent review of Rarame knitwear has flagged noticeable neckline and sleeve shrinkage after washing. Follow these steps to prevent it:

• Temperature is critical — even slightly warm water accelerates shrinkage in wool and mohair. Always use cold or cool water (20°C / 68°F or below)
• When washing, do not agitate — gently submerge and press; scrubbing or rubbing causes felting
• After washing, immediately reshape the neckline and sleeves to their original dimensions before laying flat to dry
• If neckline shrinkage occurs, lightly steam (do not iron directly) the neckline while gently pulling it back to size
• Never tumble dry, even briefly — heat + agitation causes irreversible shrinkage in all our yarn blends

6. Fit & Size Guide

All Rarame sweaters are designed with an oversized fit. Measurements below refer to the finished garment, not body measurements. To find your size, measure a favourite oversized sweater and compare.

Notes on Fit

• Size L is the most common sample/display size and is shown in product photos
• Some styles are available in One Size (best fits M–L or L–XL); this is noted on the product page
• Custom sizing is available on made-to-order styles — contact us before placing your order
• Sweaters are designed to be worn over the body or layered over a shirt
